One day I stared at a blank canvas board and didn't have any immediate inspiration sparking out of my fingers. So I decided to try and create my own scent and allow the process and the aromas to guide me along the canvas.
I mixed and toiled, toiled and mixed until I found a fresh scent that smelled like the sea on a sweet, early morning. Once I knew I wanted to use the ocean as inspiration, I popped on my headphones and started listening to Home Free's version of, "Seaside Shanty."
While joyfully painting, I decided to represent the traveling merchants as green circles, making their way along the ocean to trade with foreign lands. I use circles in my artwork a lot to represent humanity and these little green guys tickled my belly as I happily tracked their voyages.
This was the first time, and definitely won't be the last time, I use a scent to push my works of art forward. I had a grand time getting lost in a creative bubble and this painting puts me right back in my aromatic studio as I pushed my process in a new and exciting direction.

But I don’t want to put you in a box. We all have lived different lives and have had different experiences that shift our focal priorities and unique perspectives. The language you translate this piece into makes no difference to me so long as your interpretation makes you feel something.
